WHAT TO EXPECT
If you’ve never been then here’s what you can expect...
A casual atmosphere. We care about you, not what you’re wearing, so feel free to come in jeans or whatever is comfortable. Although we meet in a ‘traditional church’ building we are quite informal. Our dress code is simple: wear something.
A warm welcome. We love it when someone comes for the first time and someone should be there to greet you at the door. We don’t always recognize the first-time visitors because so many of the people who come might only be able to come once a month, so do say, “This is my first time” and they’ll guide you in.
To be treated with respect. We will not single you out publicly or ask you to say anything. We will not draw attention to you other than to welcome you and give you a hymnbook and an order of service. You will be given a welcome card and if you would like more information or to be added to the mailing list please fill it out and put it in the collection plate when it comes round.
A hot drink. After the service has ended we hope you will join us for further fellowship where you can meet some of the other worshippers over a mug of tea or coffee.
What about worship?
Liturgy. Like our congregation, our order of service and prayers are varied. We come from Baptist, Methodist, Church of Scotland, Episcopalian, evangelical and Catholic backgrounds and our worship reflects our diversity.
Music. We use a variety of musical instruments in worship, usually guitars and piano, and we sing songs and hymns from every tradition and background including Taizé, Hillsong, Wild Goose and the church hymnal.
Preaching. Our preachers aim to draw out the connections between the words of the Bible and everyday life. Usually there are two or three Bible readings each week and the preacher will focus on bringing one to light.
Communion. We celebrate Communion every Sunday. We celebrate an open Communion table. That means you don’t need to be a member of our church, or any church to receive the bread and wine. It is between you and your God. The bread we break is gluten free and the wine we share is alcohol free.
